What to Expect from Your First At-Home Massage
Maybe you’ve gone to a spa and had a massage but have never used a mobile spa for a massage at home, or you’re completely new to massages and this is your first one ever. Either way, we’re here to shine some light on what to expect so you have the best massage ever! Because after all, we are the spa experts here at Spa Theory and combined we’ve had more massages than is even countable!
Before Your Massage
We can guarantee your massage therapist doesn’t care if you haven’t shaved your legs in weeks. But, something that does help to make your massage more enjoyable is showering prior. A warm shower loosens up your muscles making them easier to manipulate during the massage. It’s also a great way to start the relaxation process.
Setting The Perfect At-Home Spa Scene
To ensure there’s enough room for the massage therapist to adequately move around and provide the best massage it’s important to clear a space that’s about 9ft by 6ft for the massage table.
Your massage therapist will arrive with absolutely everything needed to turn your home massage into the same experience you have at the spa. The therapist will have the massage table, sheets, relaxing music, massage lotion, and any additional elements you chose when booking, including hot stones and aromatherapy. You literally just need to open the door, point where you want them to set up, then relax. They’ll turn your space into a 5-star spa!
Sometimes your massage therapist may have a heated table warmer. In this case they’ll ask for access to a nearby electrical socket.
Of course, if there’s a particular playlist that you like then feel free to use your own music and not the massage therapists.
Also, if there are candles you want to use or a particular dimness to the lights you can set those up while your massage therapist is setting up the massage table.
During the Massage
When the massage therapist has the massage table set up, they will ask you to get on the table face down under the top sheet and they will leave the room for a moment to give you time to get settled.
Don’t worry if you’re laying on the massage table and realize you forgot to dim the lights or draw the shades. Just ask your massage therapist. They’re happy to assist.
Now you relax! Breath into the massage movements to aid in relaxation. The massage therapist will move your arms and legs to support the manipulation of your muscles. Just go with it and relax into it.
If anytime you are uncomfortable with the pressure or positioning on the massage table mention it to your massage therapist. They would much rather know so they can make sure to help you get comfortable.
And don’t worry if you need a Kleenex to blow your nose, if your stomach gurgles, or if you fart! We promise, massage therapists don’t care! All of these are your body’s natural reactions to a massage. It’s all good!
