Wellness At Work: A Necessity Not a Luxury

It wasn’t so long ago that the idea of having chair massages in the office was a luxury only a few big companies provided, or something businesses would offer their employees once-in-a-blue-moon for a special occasion. Not anymore. There is real science backing up the fact that corporate wellness programs are not a luxury, but actually a necessity to having a robust and productive workforce. Especially now as employees leave their homes and head back to the office, companies should be looking to corporate wellness programs to aid in the transition.

Reduce Stress + Improve the Overall Workforce

Aetna, the health insurance company, finds that corporate wellness programs reduce employee stress by 28%, improve sleep by 20%, and reduce pain by 19%. Given the stress many are facing at returning to office, offering weekly chair massages, facials, manicures, and pedicures are a great way to help employees combat the negative effects of stress and anxiety.

Companies that offer corporate wellness programs also demonstrate positive goodwill to their employees which helps raise employee morale and can also be used to help recruit and retain the brightest staff.

It has also been shown that those companies that offer relaxation services to employees have lower absenteeism, increased productivity due to lower sick days, and have higher job satisfaction.

What is Considered Corporate Wellness

Any wellness activity that positively reduces stress and anxiety can be a good candidate for a corporate wellness program. Chair massages in the office are popular because they can be done in as little as 5 minutes. But it’s always good to offer a variety of services – either at the same event, or spread out across different events – so employees can find the treatment that works best for them. Mini facials are proven to help with stress relief, especially jaw pain and tension in the neck. And manicures and pedicures are also good options given the positive effects of reflexology for overall health.  While weekly events are a fantastic cadence, monthly events showcase the same number of benefits to employees.
